Kristofferson Nunes — Perennial entrepreneur
As a creative entrepreneur, CEO, and founder of University College Ambassadors (UCA), Kristofferson Nunes takes a dynamic approach to his career by channelling his innovative spirit into youth marketing, events, finance, literature, and people management.
Intrigued by the world of event management coupled with the autonomy to leverage his creativity, Nunes’ foray into the industry came after successfully executing his first event in high school. As he gained more exposure and built his network, he focused on solving problems in unrelated niches by taking his ambitious ideas from concept to reality.
Nunes’ company, UCA, was initially focused on connecting students to job opportunities. However, when he began to find it challenging to recruit well-suited candidates for the roles he was hiring for, Nunes engaged with industry professionals to understand the nuances of resume writing. With new knowledge and perspectives, resume writing has been incorporated into his current entrepreneurial pursuits, causing him to become known affectionately as the Resume Doc.
Through his experience, Nunes encourages his community to gain transferable skills in the tech and digital industries. He cites project management skills, for example, as an opportunity for job seekers to land jobs in product design, product management, scrum, user experience (UX), user interface (UI), and coding.
He suggested that an executive assistant, for instance, who is versed in virtual communication and collaboration tools, such as Slack and Asana, could offer services to international clients and, in return, earn foreign currency.
For Nunes, at the core of digital lies community and inclusion, which inherently gives young candidates a platform to network as they transition into the world of work. Additionally, the plethora of currently available apps, like TikTok, allows Gen Z to dominate a niche by gaining an in-depth understanding of the platforms while enabling them to become thought leaders who can monetise their knowledge, skills set, and community. He connects with his community through social networking platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. UCA’s Telegram job notice board, Indeed, Seeker, and Hireme are job-board and recruitment platforms for finding suitable talent. People as “platforms” focuses on engaging thought leaders as mentors to educate and empower their community.
Nunes asserted that because Jamaica is a developing country, it offers a unique opportunity for the nation to innovate across various industries and verticals. However, he believes that access to affordable technology is critical for society to become truly digital-first. Additionally, information and platforms should be inclusive and cater to the various strata of society, including the disabled community. Nunes further noted that everyday living could be made more accessible by creating platforms that complement our culture and solves our unique challenges, such as a fintech app for “partna plans” or a farmers’ market app.
Nunes wants to be a living example of what it means to pursue one’s ambitions and live limitlessly boldly.
