I’m Getting Married, Dad!
Now that the big question has been popped and you’re preparing to say I do, honouring the people who mean a lot to you with special moments on your wedding day is important to most brides. Many choose to make their bridal party or their mothers a priority, but fathers are not to be left out.
Most fathers and their children share a special bond from the moment they are born. Here are ways to honour your father and make him feel special on your wedding day. A wedding is an excellent opportunity to capture beautiful and sentimental moments between the bride or groom and their fathers.
Ask him to walk you up the aisle
I know this is an assumed and expected role for the father of the bride; however, if you take the time to formally ask, it will make him feel extra special.
Do a father-daughter dance
The father-daughter dance is regarded as a beautiful moment between a bride and her father and symbolises her gratitude for the love and guidance she received throughout her life as she enters her new chapter. Many brides choose a heartfelt song that leaves some guests in tears while other brides opt for a song that brings laughter as Dad shows off his best moves.
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
You can ask your father to provide one or more of these items. Knowing that you’ve incorporated a memento that means something special to him will be a lasting memory and a heart-warming moment.
Let him stand out
Let dad feel special by standing out from the groom and groomsmen by choosing a special boutonnière for him or another accessory like a different tie or custom cuff link.
Write him a special note
Give him a handwritten note expressing your love and appreciation for him.
Ask him to make a speech
What better occasion for your father to talk about the pride he feels on your special day? I usually recommend the welcome speech at the start of the reception.
If you don’t know where to start, make a date with dad to speak about what he feels most comfortable doing that will fit the occasion and his personality.
Everyone has a different relationship with their father; let this moment reflect yours.
