‘I enjoyed tonight!’
WORLD champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was pleased with her performance after equalling her world-leading 10.67 seconds (0.5m/s) to break the meet record at Saturday’s Diamond League meeting at Stade Charlety.
Powered by her patented bullet start, Fraser-Pryce led from the gun to the tape as she won by a commanding distance to break the record 10.72 seconds set last year by fellow Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah.
“I cannot be disappointed. I am still training hard so I am now looking forward to the national championships and then afterwards,” Fraser-Pryce said as she wrapped up her preparation for next weekend’s Jamaican National championships.
“I enjoyed tonight. The plan and the aim is to make sure that I am able to run 10.60 seconds consistently,” she addedd.
Great Britain’s Daryll Neita was second in a season’s best 10.99 seconds with Marie-Josee Ta-Lou of the Ivory Coast third in 11.01 seconds, also her best for the season.
Shaunae Miller Uibo of The Bahamas won the women’s 400m in running 50.10 seconds, slowing down through the tape after she had opened up a big lead.
Two polish athletes finished behind her, Natalia Kaczmarek was second in 50.24 seconds and Anna Kielbasinska ran a personal best 50.28 seconds for third place.
South Africa’s Luxolo Adams won the men’s 200m in a race that saw the first three finishers produce lifetime bests, with the Olympic champion Andre De Grasse of Canada placing fourth in a season’ s best 20.38 seconds (0.6m/s).
Adams won with 19.82 seconds, Alexander Ogando ran a Dominican national record 20.03 seconds for second place, and France’s Mouhamadou Fall was third in 20.26 seconds.
Two Cubans were first and second in an exciting men’s triple jump won by Jordan Diaz Fortun with 17.66m (-1.4m/s), just a centimetre better than Andy Diaz’s personal best 17.65m (-0.8ms),0 with early leader Pablo Pedro Pichardo of Portugal third with 17.49m (-1.1m/s).
