Shab Don’s lawyers ready defence
DONAHUE Martin, a member of the legal team representing embattled dancehall producer Linval “Shab Don” Thompson Jr, says he is preparing for his client’s day in court.
Thompson Jr was, on Saturday, charged with three counts of murder.
“We are confident that we will be vindicated eventually… We are prepared to defend ourselves against what has to be a malicious or mistaken allegation made against us,” the attorney told the Jamaica Observer on Sunday. “We have nothing yet in relation to the court date, as he was just charged.”
According to a police report, Thompson was charged by members of the Major Investigations Division on Saturday, after he was interviewed and subsequently pointed out in an identification parade.
He was charged after being arrested June 3 by members of the Joint Anti-Gang Task Force (JAGTF) during a targeted operation in the St Catherine South Division.
This is not the only case Thompson Jr has before the court. He is contesting an October 21 incident in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
According to police blotters, members of the Specialised Operations SWAT team searched a vehicle Thompson Jr and co-accused Romario “BMR” Scott were travelling in and found an illegal loaded gun.
It is alleged Thompson Jr tried to bribe the police officer with $2 million. The incident occurred on South Street in Old Harbour, St Catherine.
Both men were subsequently charged.
Scott pleaded guilty in April 2022 and is currently serving six years and one month in prison for possession of a firearm, and four years and one month for possession of ammunition. The sentences run concurrently.
The son of singer Linval Thompson, Thompson Jr is principal of Shab Don Records. His production credits include Vybz Kartel’s Any Weather, Squash’s Money Fever, Shub Out by Teejay, and Money We Love by Chronic Law, Squash, and Vybz Kartel.
