Jamaica reports 174 new COVID cases, two deaths
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica reported 174 new cases of COVID-19 and two fatalities on Monday, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
This pushed the total number of cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic to 139,203 and the death toll to 3,076.
Of the newly reported cases, there were 104 females and 70 males with ages ranging from one year to 88 years.
The cases were recorded in St James (54), Kingston & St Andrew (33), Clarendon (23), Trelawny (19), Westmoreland (18), St Catherine (seven), Hanover (six), St Ann (six), Manchester (three), St Mary (three), and St Elizabeth (two).
Meanwhile, the latest deaths were a 68-year-old man from St Catherine, whose death was previously recorded under investigation in March 2021, and a 97-year-old man from St Catherine, whose death was previously recorded under investigation in September 2021.
The country also recorded 101 new recoveries bringing the total number of recoveries to 87,975.
The positivity rate for the latest round of testing was 38.2 per cent. There are 125 people hospitalised, three of them critically ill.
There are 3,323 confirmed active cases on the island.
