Jamaica reports 328 new COVID cases, five deaths
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica reported 328 new cases of COVID-19 and five fatalities on Wednesday, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
This pushed the total number of cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic to 137,724 and the death toll to 3,069.
Of the newly reported cases, there were 209 females and 119 males with ages ranging from five days to 91 years.
The cases were recorded in Kingston & St Andrew (107), St Catherine (82), St James (62), Clarendon (18), Westmoreland (16), St Elizabeth (14), St Ann (10), Trelawny (10), Manchester (three), Hanover (two), St Thomas (two), St Mary (one), and Portland (one).
Meanwhile, the latest deaths (recorded in May 2022) include a 34-year-old man from St Mary, an 87-year-old man from Westmoreland, and an 86-year-old woman from St Catherine.
A 79-year-old man from St Catherine, whose death was recorded in October 2021, and a 53-year-old woman from Westmoreland, whose death was recorded in February 2022, were also among the latest deaths.
Another death was reported as coincidental.
One other death was listed as under investigation.
The country also recorded 131 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 87,289.
The positivity rate for the latest round of testing was 30.8 per cent.
There are 124 people hospitalised, two of them critically ill.
There are 2,989 confirmed active cases on the island.
