PAJ says damaged mooring dolphin at Falmouth pier will need reconstruction
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) has indicated that the mooring dolphin at the Falmouth pier which was damaged during an incident involving Royal Caribbean’s “Harmony of the Seas” on Thursday will require reconstruction.
In a statement issued on Friday, the PAJ said its engineering department is currently assessing the damage at the pier to decide further action.
In the meantime, the PAJ says the facility is “designed to accommodate the safe berthing of vessels, notwithstanding the inaccessibility of the mooring dolphin, and will continue to do so as per normal operations.”
No adjustments to cruise schedules are expected.
A joint investigation is expected to be conducted by Royal Caribbean and the PAJ to determine the cause of the incident.
The PAJ stated that until said investigation is complete, “any determination of the cause of the incident is premature” and are urging all parties to “refrain from any speculation in this regard”.
