COVID-19 forces St Hugh’s High to revert to online classes
St Hugh’s High School in St Andrew will revert to online classes for the rest of this week after some students reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. It was not clear, however, how many students were affected.
In a letter to parents Tuesday, the school’s Principal Andrea Bryan Hughes said, “It has come to my attention that among the school community, a number of individuals have reported to be COVID-19 positive. Please ensure that you seek medical attention if your daughter/ward is experiencing flu-like symptoms.”
Further, she said online classes will be held for the rest of the week. Face-to-face classes will resume on Monday, May 16.
Director of corporate communication at the Ministry of Education and Youth Colin Steer told OBSERVER ONLINE that the ministry was aware of COVID-19 cases in schools.
“The ministry has had reports of cases in schools and they are being guided, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness,” said Steer on Tuesday.
In the meantime, a guide by the Ministry of Health and Wellness said students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 should be quarantined for 10 days and return with a negative test result.
Additionally, it said classroom spaces should be deep cleaned and reopened within three days.
