First Rock throws support behind Food For the Poor and BossMom
For the past two years on Mother’s Day, the BossMom Network has partnered with corporate Jamaica to gift “mothers-in-need” practical and well-needed items procured through donations and corporate sponsorship.
This year the First Rock Foundation has joined forces with the BossMom Network’s Build Mission and Food For the Poor Jamaica to assist three “boss moms” in achieving a better life for their families.
The First Rock Foundation has thrown its support behind an upcoming and highly anticipated Mother’s Day charity initiative as a financial partner.
The initiative will result in the construction of a house for each of these super mothers and chairman and CEO of First Rock Ryan Reid believes that the action is a well-needed movement that will have a lasting impact on not only these mothers, but also the country.
“Our primary aim is to help in creating a better life for these mothers, and we are pleased to be contributing to that. Considering that mothers can be the primary agents for transforming society, we also have to highlight the influence of this movement on our country.
“We know that this initiative will encourage those upcoming and present mothers to do their utmost best to determine greatness for the future. Mothers are the first educators, the first mentors, their role is critical. What we are promoting is a better life and a better society,” said Reid.
The initiative will provide each mother-in-need with a furnished, stocked, and move-in ready turn-key house with small appliances, groceries, amenities, clothing, and accessories.
The First Rock Foundation travelled to Curatoe Hill, May Pen, Clarendon, on Tuesday, where the team engaged in building and home-decorating activities in light of their plan.
“Three mothers will receive one home each under this initiative. Each of these mothers live in less than desirable conditions with children ranging from one to 18 years of age. So many of us are going through difficult times right now. However, for a mother who is trying to survive on her own, often without external support, it can severely and negatively impact the foundation that she lays for her children.
“The concept of helping another mother on her journey is dear to me because I know that I have gotten so much help, and simply want to keep it going. #EachMomReachaMom,” said Michelle Gordon, CEO of BossMom.
The houses provided are equipped with indoor sanitation, solar-powered lighting, a gas stove, water tank, kitchen sink and cupboard, guttering for water harvesting, and more. There is also a loft space for greater sleeping capacity and a mini solar panel to provide basic lighting.
“BossMom Builds 2022 will improve for these mothers their capacity to live up to their potential and to feel more confident about the future of their families, and also that of their businesses,” shared Gordon.
Launched in 2020, the BossMom Network is a community of “mothers-in-business”, building viable businesses, raising children, and fostering successful relationships. The platform exists to help boss moms effectively and efficiently balance family and career through information, products, ideas, advice, tools, and services.
In welcoming the new partnership, Marsha Burrell-Reid, development and marketing manager at Food For the Poor said, “For each recipient, the gift of a new house is more than the structure…it’s a place of safety… it’s a place of comfort… it brings peace… it brings love… it brings hope.”
