Highly-acclaimed journalist Andre Lowe has returned to the Jamaica Observer to lead the company’s sports publications across the print, digital, and broadcast platforms in his role as sports content manager.

Lowe, who had left the Observer to join the Jamaica Gleaner where he rose to the post of sports editor, then went to The Royal Gazette in Bermuda, will take up his new post on Monday, May 2, 2022.

He has almost two decades of experience in journalism and is regarded regionally and internationally as a leader in his field.

“I am extremely thrilled for the opportunity to return to the Jamaica Observer. This represents the fulfilment of an important ambition of mine and I am eager to get going; to work with the team to ensure that we continue to disrupt and push the boundaries while meeting and surpassing our objectives,” said Lowe.

The 38-year-old recently delivered the world exclusive on the positive drug test and subsequent exclusion from the Tokyo Olympic Games of American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson and has led the coverage from numerous international events such as the Olympic Games, World Athletics Championships, Commonwealth Games, World Relays, Fifa Women’s World Cup, international cricket, Formula One, Cricket World Cup, UEFA Champions League, among others.

Lowe’s expertise has also seen him being recruited by several major international print and broadcast outlets and has appeared on ESPN, CNN as well as in English newspapers The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, and several others.

He was awarded the Press Association of Jamaica award for best breaking news story of 2021 and has won Sports Journalist of the Year honours on four occasions. Lowe was also recognised internationally in 2013 as the Sports Journalist of the Year by Nubian Times, an organisation based in Manchester, England.

He is a director of the Caribbean Sports Journalists Association and is a member of the Media Committee at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association.

In addition to driving the editorial output for sports across the group, Lowe will be charged with developing and executing brand-aligned products that will have a strong impact on both revenue and market share.
