Sanchez’s mom’s funeral for April 30
MONICA Jackson, wife of Sanchez, says the funeral for the singer’s mother, Bridget Anestine Ivey, is set for Saturday, April 30.
“The funeral is set for Cambridge in Ontario, Canada. The funeral service will be held at the T. Little Funeral Home at the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am, and burial will follow in (the) Parklawn Cemetery,” she told the Jamaica Observer on Monday.
Ivey, who was 74, died at home in Canada surrounded by her four other children — as Sanchez resides in Jamaica — and her grandchildren. Originally from Stony Hill in St Andrew, she immigrated to Canada in 1986.
Jackson added that donations are being accepted at the Canadian Cancer Society in her honour.
“As expression[s] of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated,” she said.
Ivey was an evangelist at the Rehoboth Apostolic Church in Independence City, Portmore, St Catherine where her five children were groomed. This inspired Sanchez’s move to record gospel singles like Amazing Grace, Who Is This Man, Praise Him, and My God Is Real.
The singer, whose given name is Kevin Anthony Jackson, is known for other reggae tracks which include Forever, Never Dis Di Man, Lonely Won’t Leave Me Alone, and Chronic.
Ivey is survived by five children of which Sanchez is the eldest.
