Fraser-Pryce runs second in season opener
KINGSTON, Jamaica — World and Olympic champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, finished second in the 200 metres as she opened her outdoor season at Saturday’s Velocity Fest 11 at the National Stadium running 22.79 seconds (1.3m/s).
Fraser-Pryce got off to a fast start and led the race up to about 170 metres when she noticeably slowed down and Bahamian Anthonique Strachan passed her to win in a season’s best 22.55 seconds.
Natasha Morrison was third in 23.06 seconds.
A clash between Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson did not materialise as Jackson did not show up for the race.
Antonio Watson won the men’s race with 20.56 seconds (1.3m/s) his first run in the event, beating Kishane Thompson, who ran a personal best 20.92 seconds and Andel Miller at 20.97 seconds (1.8m/s).
