Herbert Morrison, Holland for ISSA national basketball play-off
ISSA Western Confederation boys’ Under-19 champions Herbert Morrison Technical and runners-up Holland High will be among six team seeking to win the national title at Friday’s play-off to be held at UWI-Mona, set to start at 9:00 am.
Fresh from their win in the Western Conference last week, Herbert Morrison are seeking their second title after winning in 2018, beating Camperdown High in a close final.
Southern Conference teams Jamaica College and St George’s College, along with Central teams, St Elizabeth Technical and Manchester High, will also take part in the one-day event that will be played on a round-robin format.
Herbert Morrison, who were perfect in the Western Conference, winning all eight games in the regular season before beating Holland High 2-0 in the best of three finals, will play in Zone 2 against the Central champions St Elizabeth Technical and the Southern runner-up.
Holland High will face Central runners-up Manchester High and the Southern winners.
Winners of each zone will meet in the final set for 4:00 pm, an hour after the third-place game.
Herbert Morrison Technical completed their perfect season after winning last Monday’s Game Two at Holland High 79-66. Herbert Morrison won the first game played in Montego Bay 91-66.
Holland High battled hard and tried to force a third game by taking the lead for the first time midway the third quarter but a devastating 16-2 run to close out the period knocked the fight out of Holland High.
Herbert Morrison led 20-15 after the first quarter and were up 37-31 at half time and 57-45 after the third quarter.
Herbert Morrison’s Darren McFarlene, who had a double-double, led all scorers with 26 points and also had 22 rebounds while Romario Senior, who scored 20 points, had six steals and five rebounds, three players — Renaldo Lewin, Dalmar Clarke and Reynolds — got nine points each.
Two players had double-doubles for Holland, Shamar Keane, who had three three-pointers in the first quarter, scored 17 points and had 10 steals; and Tyreese Williams scored 14 points and 15 rebounds to go with nine steals; while Flawless Travers scored 23 points.
