PNP dismisses report of Dayton Campbell’s resignation
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Senior members of the People’s National Party (PNP) have described as “mischievous”, a letter circulating on social media purporting to be from Dr Dayton Campbell indicating that he has resigned from the post of the party’s general secretary.
The letter further claims that Campbell has resigned as the party’s caretaker for the St Ann North Western constituency and from the PNP.
But PNP sources told OBSERVER ONLINE that every effort is being made to trace the source of the letter, which was fabricated. The sources charged that the letter was “a dirty attempt to destabilise the party”.
For his part, Campbell responded to questions from OBSERVER ONLINE with a dismissive “Fake News”. He also pointed out that his purported resignation letter was unsigned.
Campbell was elected PNP general secretary in November 2020 to replace Julian Robinson who resigned in the wake of the resignation of then party president Dr Peter Phillips.
Last Wednesday, Campbell was upbeat as he hosted a post budget media briefing staged by the party, with all indications being that he was enjoying his role as general secretary and the party’s unofficial ‘vibes master’.
