UCASE, Caribbean Cement Company agree to wage increase
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) and Caribbean Cement Company Limited have agreed on a cumulative 18 per cent basic wage increase for the 2019-2021 three year contract period, with similar improvements in the benefits package for the period.
While making the announcement, the union noted that it has been very difficult period for the workers who have braved the challenges to keep the plant running, and to achieve a record level of production.
The union said it is committed to continue the process of constructive dialogue in order to enhance productivity at all levels, which must ultimately lead to greater benefit for all the stakeholders.
“We encourage all interest groups in the Jamaican economic space to continue to collaborate, in order find solutions to the challenges at the workplace, which will lead to improvements in production, and also the standard of living of the workers. The recent performance at Caribbean Cement Company Limited, clearly illustrates what can be achieved with focus, fairness and vision,” UCASE said in its statement.
