International break is finally over and most football fans are breathing a sigh of relief. Football and drama are pretty synonymous at this point, and so here are some highlights from this international break:

Mauricio Pochettino is sacked and Jose Mourinho got the job

Tottenham Hotspur finally got rid of their manager of five years after winning absolutely nothing. Even though Spurs typically don’t win any trophies, being in 14th place seems to be last straw for them. The highlight for Pochettino was perhaps getting Spurs to the finals of the Champions League earlier this year, or looking like they could have won the league 2015. The point is, he wasn’t able to give Spurs any trophies and Spurs want better for themselves now. The question is, can Jose Mourinho be able to deliver that to them? When asked what he can provide he replied with “passion”. I doubt anything will change for Spurs but let’s see.

Messi finally wins an international trophy

This trophy won’t count for anything but I’m sure Argentina will always enjoy beating Brazil in any capacity. Brazil and Argentina played their annual friendly match dubbed the Superclasico earlier this week. Lionel Messi scored the lone goal of the match and secured the win for Argentina. Messi went on to make a silencing gesture to Brazil’s head coach Tite. This was after Tite expressed that Messi should have been given a yellow card. This win may be somewhat of a consolation victory after losing to Brazil in the Copa America earlier this year.

Gareth Bale stirs up trouble 

Gareth Bale has been criticized by Spanish media over the years about how much he priorities Wales over Real Madrid. Following Wales 2-0 win over Hungary, Bale posed with a flag that said “Wales, Golf, Madrid in that order”. Coupled with the fact that he hasn’t played for Real Madrid since October 5, the Spanish media are not seeing the humour in the situation. He is getting a lot of heat and I can’t imagine the drama when he plays for Real Madrid again and does less than his best.
