New Study: A broken heart might actually cause cancer
Okay, so nothing is wrong with catching feelings if they’re the good kind. However, heartbreak isn’t the healthiest thing, and I’m not just talking mentally. A heartbreak can literally kill you. A new study suggests that there is a link to what is called Broken Heart Syndrome and Cancer.
In case you’re wondering what Broken Heart Syndrome is, here’s the MayoClinic definition: “Broken heart syndrome is a temporary heart condition that’s often brought on by stressful situations, such as the death of a loved one. The condition can also be triggered by a serious physical illness or surgery. People with broken heart syndrome may have sudden chest pain or think they’re having a heart attack.”
So yea, having a broken heart is actually a thing, and here’s how it relates to Cancer. The study from the European Society of Cardiology probed data from the International Takotsubo Registry. Of 1,600 patients with broken heart syndrome, one in every six had cancer.
An ABC News article continued saying: “Compared to those without cancer, broken heart syndrome patients with cancer were:

Almost twice as likely to have experienced a physical trigger versus an emotional trigger of broken heart syndrome.

[naviga:li dir=”ltr”]
Just as likely to survive for 30 days after the syndrome began, although more likely to die or require intensive heart and respiratory support while in the hospital.

[naviga:li dir=”ltr”]
More likely to die within five years after the syndrome began.

The study only found a link between cancer and broken heart syndrome; it does not show that one causes the other. However, that’s an area where more research is warranted, the study authors say.”
Evidently, there’s a lot more research that needs to be done. We can’t be too sure that Broken Heart Syndrome is directly responsible for cancer. Other factors like overall health could have also made it easier for Heartbreak syndrome to have an effect which causes cancer. It could simply be the diets of those involved or a huge coincidence. Whatever the case, this is unsettling.
Scary isn’t it? In a society filled with a lot of negative comments and derogatory statements, we have to learn to let things go, especially when we have no control over them. Heartbreak is a serious thing. Sometimes, things in life happen and we wonder why… Just why?
It’s okay to moan. It’s okay to cry, but it’s not okay to die. Meditate, run, lift weights, do what you must just don’t allow those bottled up feelings to kill you. They are literally cancer.
