Local YouTuber making moves
ACTOR and self-described YouTuber Kyng Taj has been making a name for himself, creating amusing skits and short films which he releases on social media. The 20-year-old believes his ability to keep viewers entertained makes him competitive in an increasingly popular medium.
“I bring drama and topics that are intriguing and most times comedic elements to the table. Keeping your content fresh and relevant also draws in the viewers,” he noted.
A former student of Pembroke Hall and St Andrew Technical high schools, Kyng Taj had no interest in acting back then.
After high school, he enrolled at Portmore Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Computer Application and Business Studies. Acting came about when he joined the Broadcasting Commission’s iCreate campaign.
The arts, he stressed, has given him an opportunity to inspire others while having fun doing it. In addition to his self-produced skits, Kyng Taj has featured in music videos for dancehall acts, as well as advertising campaigns for the National Council on Drug Abuse.
Among the music videos he has appeared in are Unstable by Bugle, Yah Suh or Deh Suh by Devin Di Dakta and Dem Fake by Busy Signal.
His latest projects are a film called Behind Closed Doors produced by Tachelle Ferron and directed by Mark Deacon, and a television show called Campus that will be aired on one of the local television stations.
“A lot of opportunities have come my way. Brand endorsements, appearing on school tours, networking with creatives and business interests, commercials, and being able to advocate for good governance via social media,” he explained.
