Top Boy is a grimy yet honest film.
If you’re not a series fanatic, then you might not be aware of the most talked-about series on Netflix right now. Top Boy, a UK-based film, looks at the grimy but honest side to living in Hackney East London, England. The film fictionalises Hackney and renames it ‘Summerhouse’.

Top Boy is one of the most real films that could ever come from London. The writer, Ronan Bennett, truly did a good job. If you’re into your critically acclaimed films or the element of surprise, then you might now be glued to the TV screens. The drama that sparks from the series’ storyline is the reason for its ‘hype’, and fans even go as far as to describe Top Boy as Starz’s Power on steroids.
The cast is
made up of Jamaicans and Nigerians. But the Jamaican patois mixed with the
English accent is simply divine.
The lead cast member Dushane Hill (Ashley Walters) is of Jamaican heritage. In the new season, you will see where they incorporated elements of his Jamaican heritage in the film. Fun fact: he is Jamaican in real life.
Top Boy gives
its viewer a chance to get into the minds of criminals and see their day to day
lives, ultimately showing that crime doesn’t pay.
You might need tissues to wipe your eyes while watching Top Boy.
There are lots of guns and drugs, but Top Boy will certainly tug on your heartstrings. As the storyline develops, you will see how the killings affect the lives of the loved one who depend on these criminals for survival.
