Lively Takes Style Out in Mandeville
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Days of persistent heavy rainfall eased in the central Jamaica parish capital last Thursday as retailers in the fashion industry and patrons participated in the annual Jamaica Observer Takes Style Out (TSO).
Bargain hunters made good of slashed prices in all participating stores, with most retailers experiencing good business.
First-time participant Nadine Elliott, owner of Iconic Boutique located on Bank House Mall, said, “It is very good; and based on what I am seeing, I am looking forward to participating again next year.”
Claudette Parsons, proprietor of Beautiful People Fashion and who has been a participant since the inception of TSO in Mandeville, said the store was very busy throughout the day. Her clients were treated to refreshments.
“The sales keep me coming back on board, and I like to entertain the customers. We cater for mainly women, but we also have a men’s section,” said Parsons, whose store is located across from Jamaica National.
On Ward Avenue, the Maxie Department Store was abuzz with customers cashing in on sales of up to 70 per cent off.
Senior staff member Stacey Allen-Carter told Jamaica Observer Central
that customers started arriving from 9:00 am.
“It has been very good; I think this is the best Style Out. We started our discount from 9:00 am and we are doing well,” she said.
Proprietor of Anita Elizabeth, Summer James said that the event was successful, with 70 per cent off all items. James and other participants had combined to operate a shopping village for the event.
“TSO has been absolutely fantastic. My clients are happy and the booth holders for the Manchester Shopping Village, which is also incorporated with my business, are also satisfied with the day’s events,” said James. “This has also been the absolute best turnout that we’ve had.”
Proprietor of Allure Fashion, Andrea Malcolm shared similar sentiments.
“This year was better than last year, considering that last year we had rain, but today the rain subsided, so it is not bad. I did a good sale and I am looking forward to next year,” said Malcolm.
ATL Automotive was a part of the Manchester Shopping Village and showcased several vehicles.
The proprietors of Exquisite Boutique and Fashion Statement at Midway Mall said their participation in previous years was a better experience.
For the proprietor of Gateway Pharmacy, Dane Thomas, there wasn’t any significant increase in sales.
