Let’s go sightseeing in St Elizabeth, Jamaica
Many persons often turn to the north coast of Jamaica for sightseeing and adventure. However, St Elizabeth is fast becoming one of the go-to places for fun, relaxation and tourism.
Allow BUZZ to take you on a mini-tour of some of the hot spots and attractions in St Elizabeth.
YS Falls
This nature-based attraction
situated in rural St Elizabeth offers beautiful waterfalls surrounded by lush
gardens and magnificent trees.
There are seven waterfalls,
several of which cascade into natural pools.
Another natural pool on the property, which opened to the public in 1992, is fed by underground and above ground springs. This area is more suitable for children and persons who are unable to swim.
In addition to the waterfalls
and pools, YS Falls is also the perfect spot to just unwind and have a meal.
The Longest Corner
While travelling
to or from Black River, the capital of St Elizabeth, you will have to traverse
the longest corner in the country. This corner seems to go on forever.
It stretches from the shrimp town of Middle Quarters to New Holland in the parish. So, drive carefully.
Wallywash Pond
Very few folks are aware that St Elizabeth is home to the largest freshwater body in Jamaica. Wallywash Pond is located in the district of Pondside, St Elizabeth. It lies about 6 miles southeast of Black River and 1.5 miles from the Parottee coastline. It is Jamaica’s largest freshwater lake, and it is estimated to be about 1 km long.
The pond has not been developed as a tourist attraction, but for the adventurous who like to try the roads less travelled, it’s a short (but a bit bumpy) drive from both Black River and Parottee.
