Kyle’s body found
The search for nine-year-old Kyle Richards ended in tragedy yesterday when residents discovered his body in Harbour View, St Andrew.
Kyle, a student of Hope Valley Experimental School, went missing on Wednesday while making his way home from school.
Reports are that the young boy was among a group walking during a heavy downpour, when he was swept away by floodwaters in a gully in August Town.
For days, a search and rescue team comprising members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and the Jamaica Fire Brigade, along with residents of the community, combed the area without luck.
Yesterday, the police confirmed the discovery, but said details were not readily available.
Councillor for the Papine Division of the Kingston and St Andrew Municipality, Venesha Phillips, in a Twitter post, expressed thanks that the young boy’s body was found.
“God answered. We found Kyle’s body. Thanks to the community, the police, the JDF and all who prayed with us,” Phillips said.
Meanwhile, fresh from her World Championships 100-m win, sprint sensation Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, in an interview with Television Jamaica, urged parents to pay close attention to children.
Fraser-Pryce said that she was aware of the incident and cautioned Jamaicans to be extremely careful when navigating through severe weather.
“Just continue to be safe and enjoy the rest of the World Championships,” she said.
