No school at Ardenne Prep and Extension High tomorrow due to fire
There will be no school tomorrow at Ardenne Preparatory and Extension High, Principal Kerinth Campbell told the Jamaica Observer yesterday after a fire badly damaged sections of the institution.
Campbell said the decision was taken based on advice from fire investigators.
It was not clear yesterday what sparked the early morning fire. However, Campbell said the administrative block which houses the main office, principal’s office, two vice-principals’ office, staff room, nurses station, and a kinder bathroom have “all been compromised thoroughly”.
The computer system and surveillance camera were also damaged.
At the time Campbell spoke to the Sunday Observer, it had started raining heavily, adding to the loss as, “the few things that they allowed us to take out are soaked,” she said.
The principal, who explained that both schools have a combined population of approximately 500 students, said it was too early to say if classes will resume on Tuesday.
“The investigators will update as they continue their investigation,” she said.
Campbell also appealed for assistance to remove rubble from the school.
“We’re going to need some free, reliable trucking to cart away the rubble that they are going to be removing from the admin block,” she said, adding that the school will also need “a lot of things afterwards” to help it recover from the blaze.
