Anchovy High look to assume leadership of Zone A
MALDON, St James — Anchovy High could take over the lead in Zone A of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition today with a win over Maldon High in their first-round game that will be continued after it was blown off at half-time on September 14.
The game was called off due to a waterlogged field and was tied at 1-1 at the time.
The two teams met in their second-round game on Wednesday at Anchovy High with the home team eking out a slim 1-0 win.
Cornwall College lead Zone A with 14 points, one more than Anchovy High who are in second place ahead of St James High on goal difference.
Anchovy High had to come from behind on Saturday to earn a 1-1 draw at home against Green Pond High, but their four wins so far is just one shy of their total last season when they were third in the zone.
Maldon High have lost all five games played so far, including to Irwin High on Saturday and have scored a single goal while conceding 14, the most by one school in the zone.
