Doha 2019: Fedrick Dacres only Jamaican through to discus final
DOHA, Qatar — With only one athlete getting over the 65.50 metre automatic qualifying mark in the men’s discus throw, Fedrick Dacres has advanced to the final as one of the best performers at the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
The other two Jamaicans Chad Wright and Travis Smikle were unable to move on, recording best throws of 60.60m and 62.93m, respectively.
The world number-two ranked Dacres, who topped group A, led from the start with an opening throw of 65.44 metres, just six centimetres short of the 65.50m for an automatic spot in the final.
His second throw was no better, only reaching 64.26m and his third attempt was a foul.
In group B, Sweden’s Daniel Stahl sent the discus out to 67.88m on his second attempt to claim the only automatic qualifier spot.
