With minds working in Gov’t
Dear Editor,
We are oftentimes quick to bash and criticise the Government and its ministers when they are not upholding their obligations to the country and its citizens. I, for one, am guilty of that. We always find every medium through which to voice our displeasures, but rarely use them to highlight our satisfactions. I have no problem applauding when they do things that simply make sense and are beneficial to the entire country, not just one party or its supporters.
You can tell what a person is thinking by the decisions they make. Our prime minister, in his last Cabinet choices, has given us clear indication that he is driving the country forward with young, fresh thinkers to tackle our most difficult challenges. Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke has brought a new approach especially to easing the country’s debt and its money management. Energy Minister Fayval Williams, though soft-spoken, has brought with her bold thinking and decision making especially regarding negotiations surrounding Petrojam. Water Minister Pearnel Charles Jr has a hands-on and direct approach to dealing with the current water crisis amid widespread frustration. The challenges continue but the fresh approach by all there is welcomed.
This is what we need young and energetic political representatives with new and practical approaches. This is the way forward; our ministers being pragmatic, easily identifying our issues and solving them efficiently. This is how we will move forward as a country.
I have been guilty of openly criticising government ministers, and this is me making a conscious attempt to not forget the good things when though there is also bad. This is me making an effort to give credit to whom credit due.
