Let good sense prevail, says Vegas
Mr Vegas is urging drivers of the State-run bus service, Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), and cab operators to let good sense prevail.
This follows Monday’s incident in which a JUTC bus driver, Mikkel Donaldson, was shot and killed in what is believed to be retaliation for the fatal stabbing of a taxi operator.
The singjay took to Instagram on Tuesday to air his disapproval and beg for unity.
“Unuh stop the foolishness, man! … Mi waan talk to di JUTC driver dem and the taxi driver dem… There is good and bad in everything… We are all one black people, so the JUTC driver coulda be a taxi man too. Jus’ true him get a work fi driver bus mek him nah drive a taxi. So you kill a man wah drive JUTC bus, because a man kill a taxi man?” he questioned.
According to police reports, Donaldson, 34, of Bull Bay in St Andrew, was shot and killed along Oxford Road in New Kingston about 10:24 pm, after his bus developed mechanical issues.
That attack came hours after the stabbing death of a taxi driver by a man employed by the JUTC along Washington Boulevard, St Andrew.
JUTC bus operators staged a strike on Tuesday, resulting in the closure of the transport centre in Half-Way-Tree. The disruption caused schools in the surrounding areas to close prematurely.
“We affi do better people. We cyaan go inna the 21st century so dunce!. . .Unuh stop the foolishness man!” he exclaimed.
In a post on its official Twitter account on Wednesday, JUTC said it is rolling buses out on a phased basis, starting with select routes, revealing that buses have been dispatched from its Spanish Town and Portmore depots. It added that additional security is onboard its buses.
