JUTC to terminate service early this evening
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company is to terminate service at 8 o’clock this evening (Wed, Sept 25).
The early termination is due to lingering safety concern among its drivers, according to JUTC management.
Service is expected to resume at 5 am Thursday (Sept 26).
“We
continue to meet and discuss the attendant issues with our drivers,” the JUTC
said. “We crave the understanding of our commuter and thank our security
partners and our drivers for their commitment to service.”
JUTC drivers withdrew their services on Tuesday (Sept 24) after a colleague was shot dead in the New Kingston area Monday night.
His killing is believed to be in reprisal for the stabbing death Monday night of a taxi operator by a JUTC driver. The incident occurred in the Patrick city area of St Andrew.
