Frome, Manchester High, Annotto Bay make it five in a row
FROME, Westmoreland — Former champions Frome Technical led three schools who have won their fifth-straight game, after a big 10-0 trouncing of Merlene Ottey High in their ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup Zone B return-round game at Frome Sports Grounds yesterday.
National youth player Giovanni Mitoo scored four times for Frome Technical as they extended their lead over Rusea’s High, whose game against Green Island High was washed out.
Manchester High and Annotto Bay also ran their records to five-straight wins with victories over May Day High and St Mary Technical, respectively.
Frome Technical, last season’s losing semi-finalists, are on a high as they doubled their previous goals tally in their four previous games and are yet to concede a goal, a stretch of 450 minutes.
Mitoo scored four goals to take his tally to nine, Zico Stone scored three to move to six goals, while Tavanni McIntyre scored a double.
Manchester High scored six goals in back-to-back games after a 6-1 win over May Day High in a rescheduled Zone F game. Yarek Carnegie scored a hat-trick, while Dane Golding added his fourth of the season as Romario Campbell and Timar Clarke also got on the scoresheet.
Annotto Bay High edged St Mary Technical 2-1 in Zone J, with Armani Jones scoring both goals.
Green Pond High earned their first point against Zone A leaders Cornwall College at home since 2008, after they came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw in their return-round game.
Brandon Curate gave Cornwall College the lead before Kevon Lewis, as he did in the first leg at Cornwall, salvaged a point for Green Pond, who slipped into fourth place after Anchovy High edged Maldon High 1-0 in their game.
St James High are in third position after their 2-1 win over Irwin High, who have now lost all five games played.
Garfield Anderson’s second stint at Herbert Morrison got off to a fast start as they beat Spot Valley High 4-2 with two goals each from Chander-Paul Dehaney and Jevar Maxwell.
Anderson replaced Leacroft Lettman, who handed in his resignation last week, and helped Herbert Morrison back into second place in Zone C behind William Knibb Memorial, who beat Holland High 2-0 as they rebounded from their first loss of the season on Saturday.
St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) ended the first round in Zone E after beating Newell High 4-0 with Shamar Wallace scoring a brace, while Munro College rebounded from their first loss with a 1-0 win over Black River High.
