19 yachts sail off at 3rd Superstars Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament
Port Antonio, Portland — Nineteen of the 21 yachts registered took to the sea yesterday morning as the third staging of the Superstars Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament sailed off at Errol Flynn Marina in Port Antonio.
Tournament Director Robert “Bobby” Stewart in addressing the captains briefing Tuesday, said, “This year we are doing something a little different. The winner will receive one million Jamaican dollars. We are also doing US$200,000 and US$25,000 for record in white marlin, dolphin tuna and sailfish. To get the record to be recognised it has to be point five or half of a per cent higher than the existing record.”
Meanwhile, eight marlin — seven blue and one white — have been released on day one — yesterday.
By Pass accounted for three, including two blue and a white, while Daddy’s Dream, No Problem, Pass Time, Oh Reely and Nice Time accounted for the others.
Daddy’s Dream also accounted for a yellow fin tuna. The angler fought with 16 marlin on the first day.
A landed marlin should weigh 300lb or more.
