NWA says clean-up of rain-affected roadways, drainage continues
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) says it is continuing its efforts to clean and clear roadways and drainage features in several parishes that experienced blockage, landslides and flooding from heavy rainfall over the past three days.
Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, said the cleaning of a sinkhole and a gully is currently being done in Clarendon where there was massive flooding in the Aenon Town community.
According to Shaw, only small vehicles are being permitted to travel on the road from Summerfield to Thompson Town as work is also being done to reopen the road which had been closed off by a massive landslide.
Shaw added that the Mahagony Vale community in St Thomas, where the road is blocked by a massive landslide, is currently being worked on. He noted that landslides are also impacting the Windsor Forrest road and the corridor from Easington to Llandewey.
Crews are also working on the road from Gordon Town to Guava Ridge and the stretch from Rock Hall to Parks Road, which are both being impacted by landslides, Shaw said, adding that work crews completed cleaning in the Bog Walk Gorge and drains have been reopened and minor landslips removed.
