A COMMON AGENDA – Omar Azan

On Fatherhood:
It means leadership, guidance, foundation, love, affection and care. I believe in setting the right foundation, as a father, for children. And if we can do that as a nation or country, I think our crime issues in Jamaica will be solved. If we can start in this boardroom and go out and just mentor other fathers, and help them be better daddies, I think we’d have a better Jamaica.
Father to: Jonathan, Joshua and Jace Azan
Ages: 23 years, 21 years and 7 years old, respectively
What’s the story behind your children’s names?
Jonathan, first child:
We looked specifically at the meanings of names when trying to select a name for our first-born child.
Jonathan means: Gift of God
Experiencing the miracle of pregnancy for the first time, we knew that this child was definitely our gift from God.
Joshua, second child:
We wanted another “J” name, and decided to name our second son after Joshua in the Bible.
Meaning: God is my Salvation
Joshua in the Bible was marked by singleness of purpose, directness, and decision. He was a leader, and truthful.
Jace, third child:
When we were having our third child we wanted another “J” name. Our second child, Joshua, actually chose our third child’s name. From the moment we heard the name Jace, it clicked and we loved it! We checked the meaning and we were convinced!
It is a Hebrew name meaning Healer, God is my Saviour.
What were your immediate thoughts at the birth of your children?
Immediate thought at the birth of Jonathan: I cried and was thankful for God’s blessing of a healthy son; and how could his head fit through there?
Immediate thought at the birth of Joshua: I cried and thought thank you, Lord, he is healthy!
Immediate thought at the birth of Jace: I cried and thought, thank you, Lord, a president is born!
