A COMMON AGENDA – John Azar

On Fatherhood:
I look at fatherhood as an opportunity not just to teach my children, but to learn from my children with each encounter. I think it’s very important to be a role model for your children, and let them not only learn from you by your words, but certainly by your actions, and how they see you react to other people. Just set the right example for them.

What’s the story behind your children’s names?
I have four children, Johnny, Daniel, Samantha and Jessica. My wife Gabriela and I could not agree on the name of our first-born so he was nameless for about two weeks and known simply as “Baby Azar”. That’s how long it took me to convince her to agree to name him John Jr!
We had no such problems with our other three children, however, and we both agreed to those names as ones that we loved. Our two boys have their grandfather’s name as their middle name while our princesses have the middle name of my wife and my mother Joanne respectively. Now if you had asked about the story behind the over one dozen nicknames I have for each of my kids, that would be another story!
What were your immediate thoughts at the birth of your children?
At the birth of each of my children my immediate thoughts after ensuring that each baby and my wife were healthy and safe were around the miracle of life, how beautiful they each were, how grateful I was to my wife for carrying and bringing them into the world and the awesome responsibility that I had as a father!
