Bonsoir Saints!
Style Week Jamaica (SWJA) 2019, now celebrating its 15th anniversary, and the Rock’s 19-year-old model agency Saint International, helmed by Deiwght Peters, created another year of hot-ticket fashion events, witnessed by an international cult following.
The five-day celebration of tropical island luxury packaged in a fashion spectacle dubbed “The World’s Iriest Fashion Show” took place May 15-19 and kicked off with a Dean’s Welcome Dinner at the National Gallery for international guests in swanky and artsy style. This was followed Friday by the Fashion Symposium at the Courtleigh Auditorium with Posh In Black at the residence of the Nigerian High Commissioner to Jamaica that same evening, spotlighting accessories from local designers Aviola Accessories, Bags by Iela, and Aisha’s Inspirations by Mellisha Coke. Saturday morning the Greta Constantine team and Troy Richards, FIT Dean of the School of Art & Design led a mentorship masterclass with the Saint models.
Come night it was lights, camera, action, on Knutsford Boulevard for Fashion Block, which saw a slew of models hit the runway in local designer garb in their Spring/Summer 2019 collections. The Rock’s up-and-coming design talent was on show with over six new designers gussying it up for the world to see.
SWJA climaxed in haute style at the French Ambassador’s residence on Hillcrest Avenue at the International Mecca of Style with the collections of Kevin O’Brian, Courtney Washington and Greta Constantine. The best was definitely saved for last.
