Get hooked on crocheted pieces this summer with Dia’s Designs
Danae Solomon is designing a bright future for herself with her crochet business DIAS Designs.
The St. Andrew High School for Girls student shared with teenAGE that she started her business in July of 2018 after learning the craft during the previous summer.
“I found it to be very interesting, and wanted a hobby that will keep my creative juices flowing,” Solomon remembered
.
Her biggest supporters, which are her family and friends, took notice of the pieces she had made and went on to purchase them. That was when she experienced that “light bulb moment” which pushed her to start her business.
DIAS Designs offers handmade crocheted crop tops, swim suits, bags and keychains, all made with love and care. When asked what made her business unique, this teenAGE Boss Lady explained that “Each item is custom made, and no two pieces are the exact same.”
We all can imagine that owning and operating a business as a sole proprietor is not an easy job. Imagine then, to be a TEEN, business owner, and a student at once.
“There have been bumps along the way thus far. I’ve had challenges in balancing school and my business because all items are handmade, so it is very time consuming,” she admitted.
Solomon studied Principles of Business (POB) in fifth form and is currently studying Entrepreneurship for the CAPE examinations. She uses the knowledge she has acquired in both subjects and continues to apply it to her business.
Though Danae has a lot of plans for the future, she is working towards expanding her knowledge of crochet so that she can add more designs and pieces to her collection.
We applaud Danae Solomon on taking the initiative in being a part of the growing entrepreneurial world, and we can’t wait to see her plans become a reality.
