“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them. Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud. Do not complain. Make every effort to change things you do not like. If you cannot make a change, change the way you have been thinking. You might find a new solution.”
— Maya Angelou, Letter to My Daughter
Dear Alexis,
As I count down the days to when I will finally get the chance to meet you I am often left with a feeling of anxiousness and an abundance of love.
I often find myself asking, what will you be like? Will you look like your dad? Will you look like me? How will you sound? How will I feel hearing your voice for the very first time? What will be my first thoughts on seeing you? Then I realise that none of that truly matters as long as you are, first and foremost, healthy and here with me.
Going through my pregnancy with you, my most exciting time was when your dad and I felt you move for the very first time; it is something I will never forget. To feel your little kicks and movements on a daily basis since then has made me feel so much closer to you and knowing that you are, first and foremost, mine. I would not trade this experience that I have been given for anything else.
I can’t promise to be the very best mother in this world but I can promise that I will always, without a doubt, be right here by your side. I will always be here to protect you and care for you in every way possible and I will always love you, unconditionally. I will always motivate and encourage you to be your very best. No matter what life brings you can count on me to be your constant and number one supporter.
Love always, my darling….your mom, Zasha
