Penn Relay Highlights: Jamaican TEENs delivered!
The
125th Penn Relays Carnival, held in Franklin Field in Philadelphia, from April 25 to 27, served up great results for Team Jamaica. While the team did well overall, I just want to gush over how well our TEENs did. The Jamaican high schoolers totally dominated the relays. Here’s more on that and some other highlights:
Track: [naviga:ul][naviga:li]The Edwin Allen star studded team of Serena Cole, Kevona Davis, Tina Clayton, Tia Clayton won the High School Girls’ 4×100 Championship of America, setting a new Penn Relay record. The previous record was set by Edwin Allen in 2017. The Jamaican high school girls rounded off the top six of this event with Hydel and St Jago rounding off the top 3, while Holmwood Technical, Excelsior and St. Catherine rounded off the top 6. [/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]The Calabar High quartet of Nile McLaymont, Romario Northover, Shevoir Reid and Evaldo Whitehorn won the High School Boys’ 4×400 Championship of America final. Kingston College’s team was second. [/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Wayne Pinnock of Kingston College, won the High School Boys’ Long Jump Championship. Jordon Turner of Calabar and Shacquille Lowe of Kingston College, came second and third respectively. [/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Devannah Gayle, Kenroy Venson, Rivaldo Marshall and Kimar Farquharson of Calabar High won the 4x800m Championship Finals. Kingston College came second. [/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Holmwood Technical’s relay team that consisted of Danaille Brissett, Daniella Deer, Rickiann Russell, Kavia Francis won the High School Girls’ 4×400 Championship of America with Hydel and Spaulding coming 2nd and 3rd respectively. [/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Edwin Allen’s team of Jessica McLean, Kayan Green, Nadine Rose, Rushana Dwyer demolished the field to win the High School Girls’ 4×800 Championship of America finals.[/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Rommel Plumber of Kingston College finished second in the High School Boys’ 400m Hurdles Championship.[/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Peterfield’s Xavya Morgan, Antonio Watson, Kevon Stone and Seandee Porter finished second in the High School Boys’ 4×100 International, while Camperdown’s Tadayne Gordon, Dwayne Porteous, Ryan Webber, Jaian Bennett finished third in the event.[/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Jamaica made a clean sweep of the High Schol Boys’ 4×100 Championship of America final. St Jago High School stunned Kingston College when their quartet of Rasheed Broadbell, Vashaun Vascianna, Javari Thomas and Kavian Kerr crossed the line with the baton first, ahead of Kingston College, Calabar High and Rusea’s High. [/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Lashanna Graham of Edwin Allen, who won, was the was the only Jamaican to medal in the High School Girls’ 400m Hurdles Championship. [/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li] Immaculate Conception team of Onanda Lowe, Chanel Holywell, Shantelle Riley and Gabrielle Lyn won the High School’s Girls 4×100 international finals [/naviga:li][/naviga:ul]
Field: [naviga:ul][naviga:li]The Jamaican girls did a clean sweep of the High School Girls’ Triple Jump Championship with Ackelia Smith (Edwin Allen), Lotavia Brown (Edwin Allen) and Rhianna Phipps (Hydel) who rounded off the top 3 respectively. [/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Courtney Lawrence of Petersfield and Cobe Graham of Calabar were first and second respectively in the High School Boys’ Shot Put Championship.[/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Another clean sweep for Jamaican high schools with Adrienne Adams (Excelsior High School), Marie Forbes (Vere Technical), Aliesha Shaw (Rusea’s) and Shamella Donaldson (Rusea’s) rounded off the top 4. [/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Danielle Sloley of Immaculate Conception emerged victorious in the High School Girls’ Shot Put Championship. [/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Kai Chang of Calabar did it again. He won the High School Boys’ Discus Throw Championship. Daniel Cope of Petersfield came in second.[/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Ricardo Clarke of Calabar and Damar Marshall of St. Jago were second and third respectively in the High School Boys’ High Jump Championship.[/naviga:li][/naviga:ul][naviga:ul][naviga:li]Alex Williams of Kingston College was the only Jamaican high schooler to finish in the top 3 of the High School Boys’ Javelin Throw Championship.[/naviga:li][/naviga:ul]
