John Azar set to become Tennis Jamaica president today
JOHN Azar is the lone candidate nominated for the top post as president of Tennis Jamaica at today’s Annual General Meeting at the Jamaica Olympic Association office, beginning at 5:30 pm.
Outgoing President Aswad Morgan has already indicated that he would not be seeking re-election.
According to Leroy Brown, general secretary of the association, Azar is the only nominee for the post so far, but the other positions will be contested.
Brown also told the Jamaica Observer that he, too, would not be seeking re-election as general secretary of the association. He has held that post for nine consecutive years.
He noted that Nancy Pinchas is the only candidate so far to be nominated for the post as general secretary.
Meanwhile, Aubyn Hill, a former president of the Tennis Jamaica, is also the lone person nominated for the post of first vice-president, while Llockett McGregor and Dwayne Pagon will do battle for the second vice-president post.
Former Jamaica men’s singles champion Errol Campbell and Nigel Casserly will be running for the third vice-president position.
There will also be a new treasurer, as Charles Pinnock won’t be seeking re-election, with the lone candidate to be nominated for the post being Kristofer Martin.
