Louis Tomlinson Releases Emotional Video for Two of Us
Just over a month after his teen sister’s sudden, tragic passing, news related to Louis Tomlinson is making fans tear up for a whole different reason. Louis’ fans and pop culture stans will recall that Louis Tomlinson, of the (now defunct (?)) boy band One Direction, released a tear-jerking song called Two Of Us on March 7. The song walks us through Louis processing his grief at his mother’s passing in December 2016, how he vows to keep her memory alive, and his promise to live his life for both of them.
Just six days after the release of the track, on March 13, 2019, Louis’ 18-year-old sister Felicite Tomlinson, affectionately known to friends, family and fans as Fizzy, collapsed in London from a heart attack. As if that didn’t give the emotional ballad an extra layer of unplanned sadness, Louis has since then ended his silence on social media to put out a music video of sorts for the song. The video is titled Two of Us (Richard’s Bucket List Official Video), and features clips and footage over a few days of the tattooed singer-songwriter and an elderly man named Richard.
In the 7:12 long video the two have heartfelt conversation about their losses (Richard’s wife and Louis’ mother), and Louis helps Richard to accomplish things he’s always wanted to do. Louis takes the 83-year-old Richard to fly a helicopter, drive a race car, ride a roller coaster and even lets Richard tattoo his initials ‘RG’ onto his forearm. As if it wasn’t heartwarming and surprisingly engaging enough to watch the senior citizen react to getting to do some things he’s always wanted to do, things culminate when Louis invites Richard to come to one of his performances. The video then cuts to a clip of Louis pausing his set at an arena to bid the crowd to welcome Richard on stage. As the crowd obligingly goes wild for a guy they’d surely never heard of, Richard bravely comes out and stuns the crowd with an unexpectedly amazing song rendition. The video ends with Louis and Richard toasting their adventures together in a pub.
As the screen goes black, in white lettering Louis reiterates his promise in song to his mother – he will hold her where his heart is and live one life for the two of them. In white lettering also is the hashtag #LouisandRichard and an encouragement to donate to the UK’s Alzheimer’s Society (presumably a nod to Richard’s beloved late wife Pat who died from Alzheimer’s), the UK’s Cancer Society (a nod to Louis’ mum Johannah Deakin) and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice (of which Louis has been a proud patron for a number of years).
Congratulations on a job well done Louis, you certainly brought a smile to my face with the beautiful song and video.
