Premier League Update: The Draw will come back to haunt Chelsea
Five-time Premier League champions Chelsea failed to capitalize on their rivals’ misfortunes as they were held at home to a relegation battling Burnley team.
The Blues got off to a bad start when Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick gave his side the lead through a stunning volley in the eighth minute. However, Chelsea quickly turned the game around following two goals in six minutes, with the first coming from Ngolo Kante after a sublime skill from talisman Eden Hazard. Gonzalo Higuain then scored his fourth goal in the Premier League this season, in a wonderful link-up play between him and club captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
The visitors were able to sneak their way back into the game following sub-par defending from Chelsea during a set-piece, with Ashley Barnes getting the final touch to end what was a pulsating first half of action.
The draw might come back to haunt Chelsea later down in the season, but for now they move into fourth place. Maurizio Sarri’s men only have three games remaining, while Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United all have a game in hand.
The other three teams all lost their fixtures over the weekend but will contest their game-in-hand on Tuesday and Wednesday. Spurs will host Brighton on Tuesday while Arsenal and Manchester United will play on Wednesday against Wolves and Manchester City respectively.
