A royal premiere
Specially invited guests of HBO television series, Game of Thrones got the royal treatment at its premiere at Digicel’s sqwanky downtown Kingston headquarters on Sunday evening.
“The evening went absolutely fabulous. We had a large turnout of our customers, and ardent Game of Thrones fans. They came out in anticipation of a blockbuster episode and the show delivered,” Elon Parkinson, public relations and communications manager at Digicel Jamaica, told the Jamaica Observer.
The guest list was generated from Digicel’s cable subscriber listings, including its HBO Max package customers, as well as from its social media channel.
“It was thoroughly a family and friends experience and we enjoyed hosting them,” said Parkinson.
On the inside, guests were whisked away into the world of Game of Thrones with a torch-lit path leading to an elaborate dragon-guarded entrance, complete with snow effects to mark the winter theme for the show’s eighth and final season. Those wishing to stay outside sampled White Walker, a Game of Thrones-themed whiskey from Johnnie Walker.
There were ample picture-taking opportunities with cardboard cut-outs of the series’s primary characters and a replica of the signature Iron Throne.
Guest Kemar Jennings said he discovered the show four years ago, and has been hooked ever since.
“I love the show because you can’t expect what’s coming next,” Jennings said.
For the final season, he’s looking forward to seeing how his favourite characters handle the impending doom facing them in the current storyline.
Parkinson said there was more to the state-of-the-art audio/visual display. It was powered by Digicel’s fibre TV cable delivery system that allows for up to 4K picture resolution and crystal-clear digital audio.
“What we really wanted to do tonight was expand the true fibre to the home experience here at Digicel by showing them how it’s done in big screen, and of course surround-sound format, bringing them into the living room experience in an elevated way,” he said.
