SO Gardening — April 14
Orchids are beautiful, versatile plants that are popular and the easiest solution for making your home feel fresh and bright.
They are available in a variety of colours and are great for accentuating bold colours and allowing creative ways to incorporate plants and decorative pots into your interior décor.
Orchid Care
One of the most difficult parts of growing orchids is providing them with the correct amount of sunlight. Placing the plant near a window is ideal. Orchids need indirect sunlight to bloom and not direct sunlight like many other plants.
Natural lighting for an orchid is often described as “bright shade”.
When your orchid root begins to feel dry, it is an indication it needs to be watered. Watering, however, is where people tend to get into trouble. The plant typically does not require water more than once per week.
Orchids should employ a double-pot system. Ideally, a plastic pot with drainage holes if you choose to have the plant nested in a more decorative pot. No matter what kind of pot you choose, it must have a drainage system. Orchids with wet roots are susceptible to root rot and other problems.
