ISSA All-Island Girls Open basketball honours on the line today
SPALDING, Manchester — Holy Childhood High and Mt Alvernia High, the Southern and Western Conference champions, respectively, will take unbeaten records into today’s all-island ISSA Girls’ Open basketball Championships at Knox College, starting at 9:30 am.
Holy Childhood avenged last year’s loss in the all-island final against fellow Southern Conference school Camperdown High, beating them 47-31 in the Southern Conference final two weeks ago, winning all 11 games played.
Mt Alvernia High were also unbeaten in the Western Conference beating Herbert Morrison Technical in their final 53-46.
Six teams will take part in today’s Championships and will play two games each in their first round group before the winners of each group advance to the final set for 4:30 pm, while the group runners-up play in the third-place game at 3:30 pm.
Holy Childhood High are in Zone One along with Central champions deCarteret College and Western runners-up Herbert Morrison Technical, while Mt Alvernia High are in Zone Two along with Central runners-up Glenmuir High and Southern runners-up Camperdown High.
