Sir JhunJhun Wala seems ready to do better
FOLLOWING the Bombay Stud Farm-owned Sir Jhunjhun Wala’s win in a Restricted Allowance event on Wednesday (March 27, 2019), trainer Howard Jaghai now believes his chestnut gelding has settled down and is ready to show his true worth.
“I think it was a very good performance by Sir Jhunjhun Wala as we definitely expected him to win and he did that. I never wanted the jockey to go for the lead but really and truly, there wasn’t any pace in the race, so when he went out in front that was expected but it wasn’t really the game plan.
“He ( Sir JhunJhun Wala) has settled down nicely and I think he is ready to make the next move forward,” Jaghai offered.
Despite winning two of three races on the round course, Jaghai said that his charge is a much better horse running down the straight course.
“ Sir Jhunjhun Wala is a little more comfortable over the straight course as opposed to on the round.
“He is a very good horse and he is actually the best horse in my barn right now. So, we are going to take it day by day and see what happens,” he said.
Ridden by apprentice Tevin Foster, Sir Jhunjhun Wala won a native-bred four-year-old and upward non-winners of three contest over 6 1/2 furlongs (1,300m) by 2 ¼ lengths.
Sir Jhunjhun Wala broke well and quickly assumed the early lead over Jammin (Oneil Scott) and Christilano (Kiaman McGregor) in the early exchanges.
Coming into the lane, Sir Jhunjhun Wala found extra and began to draw clear from rivals and held it to the wire.
Lord Ashton (Dane Nelson), who was outpaced from the start of the race, turned for home in last position and despite going miles wide at the bend came on strong for second place.
Key Witness (Christopher Mamdeen) also came with a late run to get third place.
Bred by Rising Moon – Niphal, Sir Jhunjhun Wala ran the distance in 1:22.1.
