ZONE B teams Rockfort FC, Mountain View FC and Santos FC are locked in an intense battle for a quarter-final spot in the Magnum/JN KSAFA Super League football competition.

With two rounds remaining and four teams set to qualify, Central Kingston lead the group with 18 points, followed by Brown’s Town (16) and Boys’ Town (13). Rockfort FC and Mountain View FC are tied on eight points, with Santos FC bottom of the ladder on five points.

Still, all three bottom teams have a chance and interestingly, all three won at the weekend, seemingly reacting to the pressure created by results obtained by the other.

Santos kicked off the action with their first win this season, creating an upset 1-0 win over Central Kingston through Dante Green’s 88th-minute goal in the first game of Friday night’s double-header. This placed them alongside Rockfort FC, but only momentarily, as in the very next game, the second on Friday night, Rockfort responded with a similar upset win over Brown’s Town, defeating them 2-1 through goals by Calvin Campbell (fifth) and Tevin Brown (90th). Dillon McEnnis scored for Brown’s Town at the 64th minute.

“Hats off to our president. This week she brought in two motivational speakers and it paid off,” admitted Rockfort FC’s head coach, Clive Brown.

“I think defensively we were sound, other than giving up the penalty. We finished chances today … that’s one of the major pluses for the team today, we scored goals,” Brown added.

Then on Sunday, feeling the pressure of being bottom of the table on goal difference, Mountain View battled determinedly to secure a 3-2 win over Boys’ Town. Daniel Hardy (29th), Troylan Williams (74th) and Chadick Mallatte (90th+2), who ultimately decided the contest, scored for Mountain View, while Boys’ Town’s goals were scored by Jermaine “Tuffy” Anderson (14th), the national striker who has revived Colour Reds’ fortunes with goals in every match since joining them recently, and Donald Walters (50th).

That was the first of Sunday’s cross-zone fixtures, which saw defending champions and Zone A leaders Barbican FC extending their unbeaten run and tally to 20 points with a 2-1 victory over bottom-placed Maxfield Park FC, who have mustered only two points.

As a result, Maxfield Park FC have absolutely no chance of making the quarter-finals and are fighting to stave off relegation, a position mandated for the group’s last-placed finisher. Their only chance to escape that fall rests in hauling back Constant Spring FC, who are in real catching distance, only three points in front on five.

Constant Spring FC aided their chances with a 1-1 draw against Meadforest FC in the opening game of Saturday’s double. Ramon Brevitt’s 74th-minute equaliser secured the crucial point against Meadforest FC, which moved up to third place and 12 points through Robert Edwards’ 45th-minute strike.

Real Mona stayed second in Zone A, moving to 16 points with a 3-1 win over Molynes United FC. Mitch Wright (28th, 55th) netted a double, while Damian Anderson (45th) scored for Real Mona, while Sergino Frankson (42nd) scored for Molynes United, whose 11 points have already made them part of the quarter-final fixture.
