Let’s know together on International Women’s Day
On Friday, which is observed as International Women’s Day (IWD), Girls Who Know Ja will be hosting their Knowing Together: Balance for Better forum, in an attempt to tackle issues surrounding gender equality and sexual & reproductive health rights. The organisers of the forum seek to engage talks about gender issues, social issues and comprehensive sexuality education.
According to the vice president of Girls Who Know Ja, Antonette Hines, the purpose of the forum, which will be held at the Campion College Auditorium on Hope Road, is primarily for education. “The forum seeks to fill the gaps of knowledge between girls and boys alike in alignment with the #HeforShe campaign,” she said.
According to Hines, the forum will employ the expertise of qualified individuals to share valuable information, so that it may be easily understood and digested by teenagers and young adults. These will include health professionals, social media influencers, social workers, lawyers and advocacy organizations. It is hoped that with their help, both men and women will join the fight towards gender equality.
“The panelists and presenters include Rushane Campbell, Davianne Tucker, and Miss Universe Jamaica Emily Maddison, along with doctors and psychologists,” Hines added.
The event is being held in partnership with Jamaica Youth Advocacy Network, WE-Change Jamaica, UN Women, HeForShe amd U-Report. Find them on Twitter and the Gram (@girlswhoknowja), or email girlswhoknowja@gmail.com for more information.
