St Catherine bartender freed of embezzlement charges
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A bartender who was hauled before the court for stealing her boss’ money in 2017 was acquitted when she appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court today.
Shanakay Simmonds was charged with embezzlement when she failed to hand over monies in excess of $70,000.
When the matter was called up, Parish Court Judge Alicia McIntosh upheld a no case submission that was made by her attorney, Walter G Melbourne on February 14, following a two-day trial.
Judge McIntosh made the ruling on the basis that owing to discrepancies on the crowns case she did not think the accused should be called upon to answer the charge.
She was subsequently discharged.
