Vineyard FC take charge in St Elizabeth Basil Waite Major League
Vineyard FC and former champions Tafari Lions maintained their good form in the 2019 St Elizabeth Basil Waite Major League.
In their last games played last week, a double strike by Lance Salmon in the 59th and 66th minutes helped Vineyard to register a 4-1 win over Appleton Strikers at Vineyard last week Tuesday. Oneik Salmon in the 82nd and Marlon Myers in the 85th got the other goals for Vineyard. Delroy Campbell got a consolation in the 56th minute for Appleton Strikers.
Meanwhile Tafari Lions put on an impressive display in their first home game, hammering Ballaz FC 6-0 at the Lacovia Community Centre. Three goals were scored in either half.
Kristaff Murray put the home team ahead in the seventh minute and the Lacovia-based team continued dominating their opponents in the one-sided affair and Krishna Scott made it 2-0 inside the 33rd minute and Okeimo Dixon made it 3-0 in the 37th minute.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Mushtock Christopher pushed the score to 4-0 and Ainsworth Slater completed the route with a brace in the 75th and 85th minutes.
Coach of the Tafari Lions team Donovan Stone said he was very pleased with his team’s performance.
“It was a good game, we created a number of chances and squandered a number of opportunities just the same and scored six goals, so I am happy for the win. The aim was to get three points,” Stone said.
With three sets of matches to go before the end of the first-round Vineyard FC lead the standings with 12 points. From four matches they have proved to be the best attacking team scoring 12 goals. Tafari Lions are in second with nine points after three games. They scored 10 goals.
