Accused baby thief remanded
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The woman accused of stealing a day-old baby from the Victoria Jubilee Hospital last month was remanded when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court today.
Peta-Gay Ffrench of a Harkers Hall, St Catherine address was charged with child stealing last Monday.
She is to return to court on March 13.
The 27-year-old woman’s attorney has requested a psychiatric evaluation. A finger print order was also requested.
French was taken into custody two Tuesdays ago when she attempted to register the baby at the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) in Twickenham Park, St Catherine.
A subsequent DNA test confirmed that the baby belonged to a couple whose child was snatched from the hospital on January 9.
The baby boy has since been reunited with his parents.
