St Thomas crush Police in Senior Cup cricket
St Thomas Parish made a winning start to the 2019 Senior Cup cricket competition by defeating Police by eight wickets at Elletson Road Sports Complex on Sunday in a low-scoring encounter.
The two-day affair which started on Saturday was wrapped up just before tea on the second day.
Batting first, the lawmen made 136 in their first innings, with Onique Robinson 36, Dwayne Goslin 29 and Quaicin Ingram 24 scoring most runs against Gavan Brown 5-47 and Coi Thompson 2-30. In reply, St Thomas made 146 all out. National representative Nkrumah Bonner led the way with 47, Carl Reid chipped in with 27 and Thompson contributed 20.
Kemar Anderson with 4-38 and Odario Wlacott 3-32 were pick of the bowlers for the police team.
Batting a second team, Police could only manage 118. Fitzgerald Anderson with 61 and Robinson with 21 were the only batsmen to offer any resistance to the bowling of Keno Wallace, 5-22, and Omar Brooks, 3-22.
Needing 104 to secure victory, Chevon Simpson, playing his last game for St Thomas before joining the Police Force later in the week, showed no compassion for his future colleagues, as he led the way with an attacking 38, which included three sixes and three fours. He was supported by Bonner, who was also in attacking mode, making a quick-fire 36 not out with five fours and two sixes.
